Deep garnet in the glass, losing its intensity slowly. Loooots of sediment (probably a whole glass from a magnum). Fully developed nose, but still showing great complexity. Dried fruit, tobacco, roasted nuts, caramel. A lot of things going on. Palate is giving its last breath. Acid is somewhat there, but not expressive as it probably was a few years ago. Tannins are mellowed out in total, alcohol is still high, fruit concentration is fading. Plucked just off its peak drinking window. Waiting a few more weeks would kill this wine.

Light brown color. Full bodied with a perfect balance between well matured but still powerful tannins and discrete acids. Smooth and viscous mouthfeel. Long complex finish. A slice of what's the perfect Bordeaux style new world wine in my book.

Beat your 2014 WOTY Dinner: Licorice, cherry, earth and raspberry. The palate has good tannin and fruit balance. Good texture. Right in the slot for drinking now.

NobleRottersSydney - Henschke (Alio's, Surry Hills): [13%, cork] {Kim} Garnet colour with a brick tinge. Aged nose of cedary notes, french oak, polished leather. The palate is aged too, soft with low powdery tannins and gentle old plummy flavours (60% merlot, 40% cab-s). It’s not feeble, but is barely medium-bodied; a gentle blur on the palate which just clings on for a medium finish. Generally a faded old wine, not unenjoyable but the end is in sight. Would have been much better ten years ago.

Library Tasting with Geoff Kelly - 1990s - in memory of Ken Kirkpatrick (Regional Wines and Spirits, Wellington, New Zealand): Lots of age apparent. Cedary boquet with slight oxidative notes, US oak sawdust quality and cassis fruit and a touch of mustard. Dry and savory palate with US oak to the fore. Attractive wine, but past its peak.
