UWS (@ JB): Blind note like the one of last month, different source. Completely different experience. Tonight the wine had a beautiful bouquet with autumn impressions and a touch of pleasant barnyard. On the palate soft and ripe red berry fruits, sweet spices and silky soft tannin, fine acidity and a bit drying in the finish. Beautiful wine and completely ready now.

Weekly tasting group #159; Wines older than 2000 (@ RW): No notes about the bouquet, but on the palate the wine showed rustic flavors, red fruits, earth, mocha, high acidity and sticky, green tannin. This bottle was not really a great pleasure and I will not score it.

Weekly tasting group #120; A mixed set of wines (@ WW): Garnet red. Mature bouquet with red and dark forest fruits, cedar, sweet spices like e.g. cinnamon. On the palate chocolate, mocha, coffee, beautiful acidity and soft tannin. Completely ready now. Drink now or soon.

Popped and poured. 1/3 of the cork was soaked. The nose kept evolving quickly and showed violets, red and dark fruit, sulphur, iron, rusty nails, some bacon, spices, chocolate, some leather, some tobacco, French fries, underbrush and a touch of charred wood. On the palate the wine offered juicy red fruit, red cherry, currant, hints of blackberry and plum, iron, some bacon, spices, black pepper, chocolate and leather, paired with medium-plus prominent acidity, medium-plus well-integrated tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied wine benefited from moderate aeration and became very round and balanced. This Hermitage was not the densest or fullest of character of its kind and even seemed a little thin from the mid-palate through the finish, but it drank very well. 89+

Nothing wrong, I suppose, but this lacks personality in a big way and it is not at all what you would want from an hermitage. Monolithic and hard to identify, still a smooth operator with only hints of pepper showing the cepage. Disappointing.
