  • "Grand vin de Bordeaux." Cost $14.90 per half bottle. Abv 13%. My first experience of this appellation, to my knowledge. The closure is cork but in excellent condition. Decanted but little time to breathe. The colour is ruby red and translucent. The aroma is slightly tart and tangy, but not particularly strong. The flavour is acidic, a little thin and alcoholic. I'm a little nonplussed, at least at first. But this wine grows on me with additional tastes, exhibiting spice and relatively strong tannins. Good (84.5).

    Per www.chateau-beausejour.com:
Made from the best plots (or parts of the best plots), Château Beauséjour expresses the the terroir and the know-how of the new owners. Merlot 75% and Cabernet Franc 25%. Vines aged on average 45 years. No more information on this particular vintage. For 2005 and 2006, the nose, ripely fruity, exhibits raspberry and blackcurrant. Rich aromatic bouquet. The finish is long and strong. 70% aged in new barrels and 30% in once-used and twice-used barrels.
