5 vintages tasted, and this was #1 to me -- surpassing 96, 97, 01, and 04. It was the softest and most elegant of the bunch. I would be happy to drink this again, but don't see the value at the current market price. Perhaps I'm just not a fan of this vineyard as much as others. I do love this producer's Chambertin and Clos De Beze, they're some of the best wines I've ever tasted. This just isn't in the same league, at least in these 5 vintages tasted.
Gorgeous nose of ripe dark cherries with a forest floor note. On the palate, this is spectacular juice that shows beautiful cherry fruit along with a unique dollop of cough syrup/mineral flavors that add complexity and character. It's texture is silky and fine and the finish kicks it into another gear with spice-driven flavors that intense and oh so complex. Seems perfectly mature now but Burgundies like this that are so pure and balanced hold and even improve for many years. Wow! Out of magnum.
