Light yellow in color. A strong note of petrol, some white flowers, lemon zest, limestone and ripe summer pit orchard fruits. Silky palate shows poached peach & apricot marmalade, green herbs, lemon curd, medium acidity and a long & sweet honeyed finish. This is very good, but reflects the lack of serious acidity in 2003 which would have kept the wine more balanced.
bright golden colour, mute nose, on the palate light, with time only showing some lime, citrus, hints of white fruit and minerals. Good poise between acid and sweetness. This gets the points for its elegance and grace, not for intensity of flavors. All in all a bit disappointing.
HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago, IL): Thought this showed really well. Incredibly light color with flavors of peach, nectarine, and white florals. Palate was airy with very nice acidity. Everyone in Germany claims 2003 is the next 1959, and this is another example of a brilliant 2003 Spatlese. Lovely stuff.
HDH auction tasting at Tru; 12/10/2015-12/12/2015 (Chicago, IL): #05-04, 9% abv. Fantastic elegant Spaetlese that is totally true to form. Riper and quite sweet, but with a nice streak of yellow-fruited acidity. I came into this expecting Praedikat creep (thanks to the vintage) but there was none. So much extract and density here, and some fun juiciness to it.
