Found in a local (San Jose, CA, USA) convenience store, with a torn label, where it had probably sat upright in 70F temps for 5 years. A 13.5% alc Cab from South Australia. Light and actually quite well balanced at this point. Some nice flavors from age, definitely no hard edges at this point, and enough tannins are still around to provide some character. No sign of oxidation and actually held up quite well over 3 days.

I've always enjoyed the Thomas Hyland line from Penfolds. Pretty solid in all their offerings. This has deep garnet coloring with an initial nose of cherry and raspberry. Smooth, round tannins with medium body and finish. As cabs go, its a bit light, which seems a contradiction to its coloring. A nice wine though, and very enjoyable with grilled steak and fresh corn on the cob.

Cherry nose that mellows with time, air gives it some earthy characteristics.
