This was simply singing... a 10 year old merlot that blew away the crowd at the end of the evening. It needed about two hours of slow O2 to get to opening and really starting to open. It drank like a great cab at a third-to-half the price.
Tasted non blind with dinner. Allowed to glass decant for 30 minutes before serving. Followed over 90 minutes.
Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of violets, plums, currants and black berries. Flavors of plums, black berries and a hint of currant on the finish. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the next 4 years or so but it is drinking pretty well right now. Decant for sediment only.
Opaque purple in color. 15.5% ABV. Nose of cassis, tar and dark fruits. Plums, currants, blackberry, raspberry, vanilla, leather and smoke on the palate. Silky tannins and a long, lush finish. Massive wine. Big and extracted. Full bodied, rich and unctuous. This is a Bob Foley wine through and through. Drink over the next 3-5 years.
