  Decanted and drunk over several hours.
  
  An earthy, ripe nose with dark cherry and forest berry fruit, savory meaty notes and undergrowth. The fruit is still pretty forward right now, but is beautifully balanced. Ripe and broad with an excellent sense of sap. Rich and deep yet detailed with more dark pinot fruit complimenting the soil and savory notes well. There's a lot going on, but what impresses is the seamless fusion of all the elements. Finishes long with more soil, meaty and ferrous notes. Very long. Outstanding in a more forward, less nuanced mode than the '01. At peak with plenty of time in hand.

  Still deep garnet color and showing both cherry and blackberry fruit with a bit of forest floor. Great acidic balance gives balance to make the fruit persistence last on the finish. A really great wine which showed as good as I hoped it would. Has 5-10 years easily left in it.
