Esoteric Wine Dinner (Absinthe, Boat Quay): Very impressive for a Montagny – this got us all guessing which Cote de Beaune 1er Cru it came from. It had a lovely nose, rather advanced, with wafts of honeysuckle, mushrooms and white fruit. The palate was ripe and round, with red apple flavours and honeysuckle notes at the forefront and then more developed tones of white meat and earth running behind. Even with its ripe feel though, this had lovely balance, with well-integrated acidity leading the wine all the way into a long, mouth-gripping and almost rather salty finish, where more mushroomy notes were sprinkled with lemon zest and preserved kumquat tones. Nothing out of this world, but this was a really solid, very enjoyable wine. Good now, but it will go on for quite a few years yet.

Dim Sum Club does Bak Kut Teh and Chicken Rice (Marina Square Food Court): This was nice. It had a ripe stone fruit and green apple nose shading into yellow fruited territory. Past the fruit, some chalk and stone notes accompanied the riper aromas giving the bouquet a nice bass note. The palate was also very much a child of its ripe vintage, with more yellow fruited notes, ripe lemons, some peach and another little bit of green apple pushing along in a creamily textured midpalate. Very sun-shiney, fruit-led I would say, but very nicely balanced and well supported by a nice bit of chalk and stone at the finish. I thought this was quite nice. Not the most profound of wines, but this had a good delicious depth and was at a nice place for drinking.

Winestreet Does Leroy (WA Frost, St. Paul): Medium gold color. Honey and citrus fruit, with a slight truffle/mushroom background note. Leaner and less overtly ripe than the Auxey Duresses. Medium body. Very tasty.

(Maison Leroy Montagny 1er Cru Blanc) Medium dark and bright golden color; a touch of sulfur on the nose that blew off after 15 minutes, while the mineral, and earthy, pleasant oak nose stayed; somewhat concentrated, tangy, smoky citrus, tart lemon and preserved lemon palate; medium finish

Crystalline beam of sunny lemons with melted butter minerality. A good wine but nothing too profound.
