Clear ruby. Cool menthol/mint aromas. Middle to light weight, poised, mature, complex blend of crisp red fruit and herbs. Superb acidity. This remains at a very high plateau that it has occupied over the past few years. Always a pleasure to drink. An unadorned, old style Burgundy.

I've had the pleasure of drinking this 4 times from the same cellar (unfortunately, not my own) over the past 3 years and if anything, it keeps getting better. Middle weight, very complex mix of red fruit, earth, menthol and rising cinnamon spice. Fresh as can be for 25 year old Burgundy and plumper than it was a few years ago. This was so much more complete and satisfying than the 1997 version we drank last night. Terrific.

Burgundy holiday 2012; 3/22/2012-3/29/2012 (Beaune, France): Quite full but bright with only slight bricking at the edges. The nose is just fantastic, this is what burgundy means to me, dark cherries with forest floor, a little truffle and some gentle spice, I just want to keep my nose in this glass. Very smooth in the mouth, plenty of berries and cherries going on with only a slight sense of its age giving it some extra complexity and depth, a lovely wrap of acidity keeps this fresh and vibrant, it's still got a good life ahead of it. Really excellent wine.

Fourteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): An enticing array of mature black fruit, roasted meat, cooked mushroom and a complex set of meaty spice. Very good length and weight. Drinking very well right now.

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction; 3/13/2014-3/14/2014 (RN74 - San Francisco CA): Mature black fruit with good mushroom and sauvage support, and a dense, braised meat character. Very good balance and length. I haven't had this wine in a long time, and it's now another 1988 that has come nicely out of its shell.
