Aggressive and earthy nose full of barnyard, pine needle and horse leather aromas. Dust and earth mingle with meat and plum fruit flavors, but for some reason this wine just really isn't doing it for me...
I liked this. Good clarity and weight. Alcohol (listed as 14%) very well hidden. More reid than dark fruit, lacking a bit of intensity, but the flavors build and develop with air. Less "rustic" than the few other Sicilians I've had.
The nose has some volatility, but this mostly blows away after some breathing to make way for masses of soft red fruits. After breathing lots of fruit on the palate (mostly strawberries and its preserve), a hint of minerals and refreshing acidity. Very tasty, not heavy (but it still has 14% alcohol). Made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Montelleto grapes.
Nose of ripe black cherry, plum, vanilla, quite raisiny, reminiscent of a PX based Montilla. Sweet palate impression, very fruity with sweet black cherry, black pepper, raisin, and a gritty volcanic minerality. Delicate body, but ripeness is extreme here and the wine tastes like it has a little RS.
