"The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Chicago, IL): Most others at the table liked this much more than I did. For me, it was fine. It lacked plenty of the typical syrah qualities besides the fruit, which admittedly was clean and intense. The palate was similarly bulky in that way with large scaled fruit, but there was also a slight bit of earthiness that seemed to get in the way of the wine.

What a wine. Decanted for 35mn. Classic Northern Rhone syrah nose with lots of smoke, meaty but also a very sappy minerality. Similar palate, no heaviness or lack of acidity. It's close from being perfect. Very long, complex and evolving in the glass. No black olives note, no over ripeness. Just wow.

Burgs, Rhones, Piedmont, and Krug: A brilliant aged Syrah more reminiscent of Cote Rotie than anything else. It keeps getting more youthful and complex with air. Fantastic.
There was about 20% of the bottle of the 1985 Fonsalette remaining after the tasting, which I threw in the fridge and tried again two nights later and it was still showing very well. I’m very disappointed that this was my last bottle, as it still has plenty of life left in it.

Deep, meaty, mineral flavor. Fruit almost gone. Rich and long still, but would have been spectacular 3-4 years ago. Drink 'em up if you still have them. Perfect with lamb.
