With Henry and family. Did not take good notes, but wonderful complex BF nose --- smoke, roasted meats. This is much more savory (and therefore for me better) than the 2004. Not the strong blueberry that I got from almost all of the other 2005s so far. Wonderfully complex. But some were not so enamored with this. It is an unusual flavor, which we happen to like.
Dark garnet color. Pop and pour nose is rich in fruit and spice. The palate for this wine is so unique to me, however I will confess I do not drink a lot of 100% syrah. You are initially hit with a punch of spice and blue fruit. Allow it to rest in your palate and it begins to resonate with cassis, earth, cherry. Multidimensional is a perfect moniker for this wine. Long lasting finish that begs for another sip to answer the question - what else is there in this wine?
Arguably the best wine Christophe has made. Balanced, long finish, and flat out delish. Cherry incense, pepper, underbrush, earth, veggie broth, violets, tar, tobacco, red fruit, and meat. Just a light dose of the Cayuse funk. Perfect with lamb burgers. Lots of life ahead. Hoping to try my last bottle in 5-6 years.
