  • Cork stained 2/3 up but looked pretty good. Decanted but little sediment. Nose of rose petals with some barnyard (so go stand by a newly fertilized but blooming rose garden). The earthy flavors continue in a medium bodied and fully resolved wine. Some cherry and just a touch of soy. The earthy garrique melange made for an interesting experience. (Others couldn't get past the barnyard.) Better than a previous bottle.

  • This wine was tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. The bottle was kindly provided by Ed Porth. Opaque garnet, it shows a very intense bouquet of chocolate, plum, cola and tobacco. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity , melted tannins, well-integrated alcohol and flavors in line with the nose. Long, smooth finish. Amazing juice! This is a grape that is capable of great things, assuming that the grim reaper does not interfere with your ultimate enjoyment. Drink now-12/15.

  • Jen's Fund Raiser Dinner (Max's Bistro, Fresno Ca.): This was AMAZING! This was at the end of the night, so we were all pretty shot. Can't believe the age....it was so dark and young looking. Sourced from a very cold cellar. The flavors were of dark berry fruit, mushroom, wet leaves, dusty dry leather....still tannic. Had some interesting electrical fire thing going on....burnt leather. Very much alive....plenty of fruit and aged complexity. Again, wish I could have payed more attention to it. You could have painted a house with all the sediment!

  • Looks like a pristine bottle with perfect fill. The cork was in decent shape. Fairly deep color with some bricking. Opened for an hour and then poured. In the nose I get soy, menthol, earth, mushrooms. In the mouth more earth, wet socks and mushrooms with menthol. Seems a bit tired (so would you at this age!) Opening with time. After an hour it's more vibrant with some sweetness on the palate. To the earth notes I'm getting spice, brown sugar, cinnamon and a finish of soy. That hour really helped! A very nice wine at 36 years, a lovely history lesson and loads of fun.

  • Signs of Seepage, but the wet cork came out in one piece using the cork screw/ah so combo trick. Still very dark in the glass, with cloudy bricking at the edges. Very pretty floral red fruit aromatics jump out of the glass, with a tinge of mint and cigar wrapper. Hints of burned sugar show themselves with more swirling. While the nose is pretty, the palate is somewhat jagged - still plenty of acidity, notes of barrel char, coffee grounds and black tea dominate. Sweet red fruit and mushrooms start to emerge with more air. Complex, yet not very harmonious. Still very much alive!
