A few members of our Minneapolis burg group have been having discussions regarding 05 burgs: will they age well and ultimate what about the quality. These discussions were essentially theoretical since we've hardly drunk any 05's. Last night we popped six, and turned the theoretical ramblings into empirical data. The two standouts were the Bonnes Mares - Potel and Vougeraie. The Vougeraie BM had gorgeous pure fruit, and the bottle showed amazingly well given its youth. Terrific for a young burg, and this should age well. The Potel BM showed a little bit of funk, which cleared out and again an amazing purity of fruit showed itself. Also very drinkable for a youngster, and a very good bottle.

(Potel Nicolas Bonnes-Mares) A deep nose that also shows quite some width. Warming and swirling fills in the picture with some higher toned notes. Big and impressive in the mouth with chocolate covered fruits and a wave of tannin that keeps abreast of the fruit. Incredibly impressive stuff, but for my own preference it's just a little brutal today. Really impressive stuff.
