Deep dark color but a rather youthful look, which was later confirmed by its rather youthful flavors. Immediate and huge nose of smoke, followed by white pepper, eucalyptus, leather, dark ripe fruit; an immense wine with great texture, sweetness and acidity; long, long rich finish, still with some sappy zest. A perfect wine.
Finely tuned and vibrant red and black fruit on the nose, with smooth sweet spices. Silky mouthfeel but with textural depth provided by the remaining tannins. Persistent in the glass, this improved for more than two hours and capably lasted three, at which point it was all gone. 95+
A great wine dinner in Athens (Aleria, Athens): No decanting here. A majestic wine and simply perfect ( only our second 100 in 4.6k TNs the other been the 1983 La Mouline) Quite a bit of evolution on the colour but still firm dark red. On the nose it is a symphony , a wine to medicate over, smoky, roast meet, light spice, dark fruits. All in balance and so expressive. The palate carries on the same tune , full of elegance, silky character and with a vibrant core of fruit. An amazing wine and a worthy 100. Would drink now albeit it has life in it.
Extra kudos to this wine as it impressed so much even after following the excellent 1983 Cheval Blanc (Papies 98)
Sensational. Dark ruby color. Lovely nose, very reminiscent of a classy BDx with some leather. Mouthfeel was epic: smooth, round, supple. This is why you age wine. On the palatte it was ringing with red fruit, dark cherry, kirsch. The wine left us feeling utterly satisfied. It was just awesome.
