Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Opened by Allred at the Haggis offline last weekend and double decanted. From magnum. Clear light red color. Notes of cherry cola, mint and red berries. Some sweetness on the finish. You can tell that a California producer had a hand in making this Oregon Pinot. 91 points.

  • From magnum, double decanted briefly off its sediment. Notes of red cherries, earth, forst floor, mineral and florals. Balanced and fully-integrated, with cherry, earth and spice flavors, and an intriguing herbal/stemmy quality. Nice finish with softened acidity and plenty of fruit. In this format, could certainly remain at this level for a few years yet.

  • 1999 Pinot Noirs; 1/14/2006-12/31/2006 (All over the map...): Having had the '99 Siduri Hirsch a few days or weeks ago, and having found it enjoyable but simple, I'm surprised by this wine. More tart than the Hirsch, with a slightly hollow midpalate and a short length, it nonetheless has a quite enjoyable taste profile, much more Oregonian than Californian - earth, cola, and tart red fruit.

NA: I found that this wine starts to fall apart after about an hour - the fruit starts to age and fade. Drink sooner rather than later.

  • Steven Rigisich's notes got me to thinking about my last bottle of '99 VdK...Throwing some serious sediment...bricking at rim, cloudy but ruby in color...some heat, fruit has all but faded from this glass...on the palate most that remains is a fairly good weight, alot of spiciness and some fruit that has faded severly - fairly tangy in it's profile. This bottle is indeed dead, hopefully most of the 69 casees produced have been consumed...I'll check to see if air brings any nuances back...My recollection was that Adam thought this was a near term Pinot ---- but what the hell does the winemaker know??
