Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 133 notes)

Tasted by bilgepump100 on 10/30/2009 & rated 88 points: Jammy blackberries and raspberries. Nice peppers and a little tang on the finish. Glad I waited as I have no tannin issues. (184 views)
Tasted by smigdiggler on 7/26/2009 & rated 88 points: The 05 seems to be getting a little cloying. still the grape nehi but the brightness has faded. (635 views)
 Tasted by Sushii426 on 7/11/2009 & rated 90 points: (557 views)
Tasted by MCrawford on 4/10/2009 & rated 87 points: Deep purple ink. Big fruit on day 1. Smooth tannins, solid structure. After 2 days of vinVac it was a bit flabby and blah. A good wine though, I really like the wines this producer is putting together. Great QPR. (1197 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 12/25/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice bottle of wine - a little too much fruit, otherwise great. (1709 views)

Tasted by CooGAR on 9/8/2008 & rated 84 points: The more I drink this wine, the less I like it.....guess I shouldn't have bought 6 bottles!! LOL! Only 2 left to go! (1902 views)
Tasted by CooGAR on 8/14/2008 & rated 86 points: (1537 views)
Tasted by neighborbill on 6/8/2008 & rated 88 points: (2302 views)
Tasted by ikkaariainen on 6/8/2008 & rated 88 points: I thought this wine was very good. Had with Kim at Bill and Debbie's as the first of 2 shirazs followed by the Schwarz Nitschke Block '04 shiraz with dinner of grilled lamb. Somewhat muted nose of mocha, smoke, blackberries, blueberries and some terroir. Dark ruby color w good mouth feel and reasonable aftertaste. Still relatively young, would expect the tannins to keep integrating and developing over at least next 2-3 years. Primary flavors included mocha, chocolate, blakcberries, blueberries and cassis.  Tasted by ZR1001 on 5/2/2008 & rated 83 points: Way too hot for my taste. (3385 views)
Tasted by silk1969 on 5/2/2008 & rated 83 points: Alcohol, alcohol, alcohol. Even after a 2-hour decant, this thing was hot. Like liquor-soaked blackberries served in a bowl of heavy cream, but not much else going on here. (3406 views)
Tasted by Old_Winyards on 4/16/2008: Ripe blackberry liquour nose... smoothe entry, with lots of blackberries, blueberries, and chocolate flavors. Tannins more prominent on finish, but there seems to be a bit of bitterness that one might associate with slight overextraction. (3701 views)
Tasted by markcvino on 4/13/2008 & rated 92 points: (3294 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 4/13/2008 & rated 89 points: I agree, this is the darkest, deepest, most dense, inky black colored wine I have ever consumed. The layer cake on the label is a winner as is the heavy metal screw top and the long narrow, unique shape of the bottle. This wine coats everything it touches, the glass, your palate, (and your teeth!). I found the nose a bit restrained the first day, but overpowering the second, so give this some time to open up. Big and bold, a fruit bomb the minute it hits your palate with soft tanins, and acidity. Long finish with balanced heat to drive it on. Great QPR!!! (3817 views)
Tasted by MCrawford on 4/8/2008 & rated 88 points: Came off a bit "spiked" when the bottle was opened. Could not decant, but let it sit in the glass for 20 minutes before drinking. Deep purple ink color, that you can't see through. Black cherry with underlying chocolate tones. Not overly brash once it settles in. As others state, pairs well with sweeter foods. Solid structure, with medium body and finish. Should hold up for a few more years. (3969 views)
Tasted by DSimmons on 3/12/2008 & rated 92 points: another delicious bottle of this knock-out QPR (4569 views)
Tasted by RJurman on 3/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Deep nose and inky purple. A total fruit bomb with a decent finish but inconsistent. This wine is a nice drinker but for some reason I don't like it with food. Tastes better with dessert, thus the name? (4600 views)
Tasted by Gulelin on 3/7/2008 & rated 85 points: Color was a dark purple. Nose was a little hot. Very disjointed on the palate. I remember I liked this a lot last time, not diggin it as much now though. (4642 views)
 Tasted by jonb72 on 2/24/2008 & rated 88 points: (4496 views)
Tasted by Vino Uomo on 2/23/2008 & rated 83 points: Nose was completely chocolate and true to the Label's name it was like a cake. I also already got a "fake" type smell to it. Taste was rich and full of initial fruit, unfortunately it lasted 1 second and it was gone. This wine is over the top fake to achieve its profile. This wine wont cellar IMO and while it offers some instant taste its not the type of wine I like. (5078 views)
Tasted by Reyman on 2/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Big berry and chocolate nose with lots of blackberry, chocolate and vanilla on the palate. Sweet, smooth and a bit silky on the palate. Definitely in the fruit bomb category, but enjoyable nonetheless. (5175 views)
Tasted by brythephotoguy on 2/1/2008 & rated 89 points: A very sweet nose of blueberry, sweet vanilla cream, a hint of tobacco & oak. Palate has loads of dark fruit, a bit of spice, bittersweet chocolate and oak. Finish is mostly oak. (5589 views)
