Weekend in Westport; 8/25/2021-8/29/2021 (Westport, CT): This might have been the surprise of the evening for me. It was drinking incredibly well given the quality of the year and the age. Still had some red fruit. Good backbone. I really enjoyed it. In the perfect spot in the drinking window.

Neal Martin’s Bordeaux Olympics (Restaurant La Trouvaille, London): A light, mature ruby. Very strange, old nose: a bit bretty-stinky with a sweet richenss, with a hint of volatility and reduction. Very light and remarkably fresh tasting with a fine acidic streak. Guess early ‘70s.

Soft and rather simple but still a nice, elegant wine that is fully resolved. Hints of that classic Montrose red spice on the finish.

Iodine and plastic notes on the nose. Quality red fruit on the palate but tainted by plasticy notes. Glass was clean.

An epic vertical of Chateau Montrose (Restaurant Daniel): Nice complex nose. Chocolate and mocha flavors. Still full bodied. The 60s were clearly superior to the 70s. Montrose vertical 1895-2000
