I am not used to Malvazia, usually had Verdelho or Boal. This has a near searing intensity to it, a great and surprising freshness. Not overly sweet at all -- really quite different. Scents of Irish coffee, plum(!), light caramel, a weird floral intensity to it. Certainly wow'ed the crowd who would have rated it higher than I have. A day later, and this impresses me more -- maybe just fewer distractions. An exceptionally complex taste, not just the coffee caramel notes, but a smell of spearmint and again plums/strawberry? to give this a wholly unexpected sets of dimensions. Fierce on the attack, plenty of very vibrant acidity. Wow. Score: 94-98 -- wide range just because I really am not competent to give this a number given how I was not expecting this at all. Relative to expectations: ++
