  • Transparent ruby color. Nose is perfumedly complex, pinewood, biscuit, fruit cake, earthy, soya sauce, mushroom. The palate is red-berries-driven supported by the fresh acidity. Respect to a Volnay at this age that still delivers. Uncork and wait for 1- 1.5 hr to open up.

  • Pretty red berry fruit and floral notes with some minerality, elegant and very volnay. Probably past its best even though it was purchased at release and kept under proper conditions (original price tag of $12 was still on there!). While beautiful at the beginning it did fade very quickly. I also did notice the beet character that was brought up and attributed to chapitalization.

  • Pale, fully mature. Pretty reticent right out of the bottle, but then fragrant green notes and some boiled beet sweetness. From these rather disjointed components, one gets the sense that this was chaptalized. Nevertheless, gentle, lovely, and feminine right out of the bottle with subdued but still present fruit and a twist of acidity. Still recognizable as Volnay for its delicacy. Ephemeral beauty that faded rapidly and was pretty much gone within 20 minutes. Right at the precipice but at least a very enjoyable first taste.

  • This wine is clearly on the way down but is still a great pleasure to drink. Color is still vibrant and the nose shows the lots of strawberry fruit, flowers, tea leaves and forest floor. Tannins are pretty much gone but there is sufficient acidity and decent length. Very enjoyable but drink up soon!
