  • Deep and dark, drank well for a wine probably past its prime. If I had more, would drink them in the next year. Great with a lasagna bolognese.

  • Unique and quite delicious. Worried a little as the cork was stained all the way through, but all was well. Definitely has an 'aged' aroma now. Very dark in color, almost black. Extremely aromatic and a very complex and layered palate. Heaps of blackberry, raspberry, mineral, licorice, sandalwood, herbs, leather, spice, dried flowers. Full bodied, nicely balanced and a long finish. Definitely at or near peak. An extraordinary wine from Compania area.

  • Solidly in a mature phase at this point but its likely just gotten here. Lighter tannin than you might expect for the type. Requisite figgy cherry and lava rock notes. Rich palate still in terms of density. Lots of glycerin. Solid acidity and stout tannin. This hasn't really gotten to an elegant point but given the house we shouldn't expect that progression. Good wine in a bigger way. I'm guessing this solidly mature spot is good for at least a few years. Its always a guess where a big wine like this will go after that.

  • Decanted for 3h. Earthy sandalwood perfume, some vanilla too. On the palate, black berries and ripe plum, spices, mineral, yes some chewy tannins still, and a great acid with echoes of black pepper in the finish too. Smooth, classy, and delicious, surprisingly youthful and still in its drinking window IMO. Perfect tonight with pan seared duck on a Fri night. This is one of my favorite Italian producers, but alas my last bottle.

  • Delivers a singular but powerful message, although now with the wisdom of age. Still has plenty of time left. It now seems to be shaking off the last bit of tannin, which is in that phase which makes for a bit of a dusty finish. Otherwise, probably would warrant a higher score. Paired really well with a tomato basil risotto.
