  • big black & dk red fruit, nice finish, mild herbs & eucalyptus, rich & lush style w/mild bricking, still well balanced w/good structure. This one held up better than expected. Drank with wino group blind and voted 3rd out of 9 vintage bottles

  • I was surprised that this shiraz was delicious even after 17 years. I had stored it at 55F since release. It actually was even better the second day with the bottle left open overnight. Plenty of sweet fruit and measured oak with a medium-long finish. I would not suggest continuing to age it, of course, but if you own some and have stored it properly, dont give up on it.

  • Gorgeous. This is a wine that everyone who has a problem with quite a bit of oak and big fruit in young Barossa wines MUST try to seek out. THIS is what it should taste like when you give that all time to settle down. After 12 years you finally reap the benefits: long, soft, luscious, ripe, smooth, beguiling, yet still vibrant and powerful. Give these wines some time and you won't believe the results!

  • Last bottle of this we had was way back in June '05 with some American visitors and they thought it was a wonderful wine, even though from a dud Barossa vintage. But from memory this wine has not been well received overall, due to the 'burnt oak' characteristics this wine exhibits. But I thought we would try another bottle before the year ended. Decantered for just over an hour the colour was medium/deep crimison red. Lovely long legs lept up the glass as you swirled it. For a dud vintage and 10 years old this wine doesn't appear to be falling over ... yet. Fragrances of blackberry, red fruits, mocha, liquorice and chocolate climbed out of the glass. The palate was fruit ladened, with hints of liquorice in the background. It did have the very noticeable "burnt" oak characters present in the wine as well, but tried as I did not to like this wine, I couldn't. Although definitely not in the same league as the 1996 vintage of this wine, it is a big, mouth coating Barossa shiraz that is well structured and overall very enjoyable. In fact a few at the table deemed it their wine of the night, which is saying something due to the company it was in. Will drink my last bottle sometime next year as it is not getting any better and only has 1-2 years left in it IMHO.
