Stunningly beautiful wine. Full of fruit and spice, with a inky depth still there feeling like an almost young wine, but with a beautiful roundness that comes from the age. A wine still in it's prime and really a beautiful expression of spanish red from the ribero.
From magnum. Meat and tobacco on the nose, and slightly musty right from the bottle, but soon clears up giving way to sweet, earthy, mushroom notes. Harmonious and well structured, big and juicy, with smoky, cedary flavors. Finishes a little short, and doesn't stand up well to extended exposure to air. The first 30 minutes in the glass the wine was most enjoyable, but after an hour it started to seem tired. I was pretty happy with its performance, not having had any very high expectations anyway. This note refers to the reserva, according to the back label.
This wine was ruby-red to brick, with dark intensity and still clear. Aromas of dark tree fruit, pepper, cloves, kirsch, and wood on the nose. Mediium-bodied, with glycerin, and noticible acidity. Balanced, with a short finish.
Big and jammy black fruit aromas. Good overall balance on palate with black fruit, moderate spice, well softened and integrated tannins plus acidity. Size and structure made this better with food than on its own. Perhaps a year or two past its peak?
