(Brusset GIGONDAS Les Hautes de Montmirail) The 2006 German Tasting What are you doing next Monday? We’ve just put together a last minute, quite comprehensive tasting of the best 2006 German wines - all directly from the individual estates (most are not yet released). We weren't sure this was going to happen but it’s a go (with a lot of help from Rudy). If you think 2006 is a vintage to overlook, you may want to think twice. 2005 received the most attention ever lavished on a German vintage but the wines are not to everyone’s liking (heavier and far richer than many care for in Riesling). True Kabinett was very tough to find in 2005 and it is again in 2006. The strength of the very small crop in 2006 was the precision in the higher range of sugar-weight. 2006 is a vintage that favored the Mosel and heavier predikat levels and we will have a large selection of each to display for you. We will also have a selection of wines from all over Germany (not just the Mosel) so you can make your own assessment instead of reading someone else’s opinion (an invaluable experience). At last count, there are 100 or more wines to try which makes this a very intensive early look at the vintage. I will be very curious to see if the 2006s are preferred to their 2005 cousins. We considered charging for this, but it’s so last minute that we may as well just make it....free. There will be nothing to sell, just wine to drink and a great opportunity for education in a relaxed, walk around setting. The warehouse is too full right now so the event will be held at Salty’s on Alki: The 2006 German Tasting FREE Time: 5-7 pm Monday, June 11th Salty’s on Alki 1936 Harbor Ave SW Here’s a small list of producers (among others): Monchoff Reihnhold Haart Karthauserhof Zilliken Kunstler Wegeler Schafer Frolich von Buhl Pfeffingen Gunderloch AND MANY MORE! Please bring your own tasting sheets/pens - we will not have a formal tasting card. The room is limited to 50-60 at any given time so please RSVP in advance (by Tuesday June 5th) to: pat@garagistewine.com We have to cap the number of invites so this is FIRST COME FIRST SERVED with RSVP’s. Please limit the number of RSVP’s to 2/person. Thank you - it should be a great afternoon! Jon Rimmerman ****************************** Gigondas Dear Friends, I’m off and running, headed to Europe for some very interesting new developments for Garagiste and our web site...stay tuned. This was just confirmed - Brusset’s top Gigondas and a wine that is every bit as grand in bottle as it was in barrel. Modern? Maybe, but it is also seductive and very long on the palate with a multitude of elements swirling around the tasters consciousness that are not easy to forget. Not sure what Parker tasted in bottle (bad bottle?) but Josh Raynolds’ review is very similar to my own from last week when I secured the parcel: 2004 Brusset Gigondas “Hautes de Montmirail” (this is not Brusset’s Gigondas Grand Montmirail) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone9710 ------ End of Forwarded Message
