Very pleasantly surprised by this bottle. Very well integrated and in a prime drinking window. Smooth tannins, very soft. Sweet but not fruity. Extremely long finish. Given I got this on clearance for $17 earlier this year, it is clearly my QPR winner for 2012. This would be really good value at $70+.

Notable anise on the nose, along with bright herbs. On the palate, more of the same along with cassis and a rather elegant fruit and a hint of chalky minerality. Somewhat atypical in flavor profile. A nice wine, but not quite what I was looking for with tonight's dinner pairing. Poor QPR @ $45.

Drank with beef fondue on Christmas Eve. Obviously, wasn't spectacular as I'm just now (1/12/12) writing the note and I can't recall too much. It was very good and easy to drink, but I don't feel that it really did much after being open for several hours. Three of us consumed, so it didn't last for more than 2 hours. I would rather have had a Napa Cab or some Rhone-style juice. Happy to have gotten it as a bargain for under $20 (80% off sale).

Big and juicy with blackberry, black tea, and solid acidity. No way this tastes like it is 10 years old. Sweet gripping tannins.
