After reading the notes here, I was expecting something dominated by fruit and on its way out, but I got a pleasant surprise. On the nose, cherry candy and eucalyptus; on the palate, tart raspberry, black cherry, and raisins, with smooth cocoa on the short finish, and good acidity. The powerful tannins that I have always found in younger Turleys were almost completely absorbed, showing only a little at the end. I like the monster tannic style, but I also like what this has turned into -- I still wouldn't call it light or subtle, but it is more nuanced than I would have expected. The short finish is the only thing that keeps me from scoring it higher. This has to be near or at its peak, but based on the hint of tannin still remaining it probably has a couple more years before it starts to go downhill. I am impressed; I didn't think this would age well.
