  • Took the opportunity to taste this alongside the 2005 Joblot Clos de la Servoisine. The first bottle of the Cellier Aux Moines was sadly corked, but what can you do. The second bottle was fine. Both the Cellier Aux Moines and the Clos de la Servoisine both exhibited big grapey noses, although the nose on the Servoisine came off as a bit plummy, while the nose of the Cellier Aux Moines was a bit tighter with wisps of mineral and iodine. On the palate, it was quite difficult to differentiate between the two -- both showed soft fading dark fruit with secondary notes of forest floor and dirt, although the Cellier Aux Moines came off as the more coiled of the two. Unfortunately, both came off as flat, missing the fruit and acid that had been exciting in these wines' youths. I am hoping that perhaps these wines are both going through a dumb phase. Based on prior bottles, I had imagined that these wines would not lose their fruit for a long while -- perhaps I was mistaken?

  • Nose and flavors a bit funky like it is old or possibly flawed
