  • Slightly underwhelming, but still a lovely wine

  • (Blind tasting)
Very mature nose. Cooked fruit. Soy sauce. But also some redeeming cool gravelly notes.
Quite rich and generous palate. Blackberry, pepper and herbs. But also more and more meat stock and soy sauce while in glass. And a bitter finish.
Unfortunately a bad bottle with a too mature wine. Based on this experience I would not cellar this further.

  • Bought upon release - cork was firm/tight. Old world nuances at first with some plum, cranberry and cherry followed by earthy notes and campfire. Lovely and bright on the palate. It holds your attention through its elegance and not its power. Going to wait an hour+ and then revisit...wine seems to be melding even more together in a brilliant, soft way - showing an ethereal/delicate quality. The wine continues to evolve even over a short period in the glass. Worth the wait and shocking that this is 25+ years old...this is why we collect and cellar wine. Looking forward to the next bottle.

p.s. osso bucco over creamy cauliflower purée and caesar salad

  • Tasted blind. Not a bad wine but not impressive at all and welalced it as a north Rhône Syrah from a hot year as the wine was frankly unimpressive and cooked on the fruit.
Checking our notes over the last 3 years this has consistently disappointed and frankly do not understand the critic ratings nor the price tag that comes along. A wine to avoid paying for for sure. Probably a 90 experience but adjusting for cost and hype we will rate this a merciful 88

  • Smokin Meat and Serious Syrah 2.0 (Westport, CT): Contender for WOTN for me. This was just lovely. Sweet black fruits that are slightly 'yummy' but not over the top. Lavender. Maybe violets. Very bright and there's a freshness to the wine. Hard to believe it's 23 years old and at the same time it's just so well balanced. Very enjoyable.
