  • Bought three of these for $80 total, worried that they would be well past their prime, being a second wine. On opening initially, pop and pour, I felt like I had made a bad call - at room temperature it felt a little thin, and while the tannins had lost their grip and become fairly supple, the finish was short and the fruit mostly cherry-turning-to-raisin without many notes of complexity. On the second day, served slightly cooler, it seemed to gather depth and richness. Still just a 15-20 second finish and a medium body. Slight notes of pine or eucalyptus. Overall a nice and fairly elegant wine, though I think this might have reached its peak a few years ago. At this time of this writing, I hadn't had any Il Caberlot, so I can't compare, but I've definitely had worse second wines from more storied producers.
