I love the 1978, but have never seen the 1977 before. Big, leather + tobacco nose, barnyard, earth; savory animal and dried flower petal on the mouth, big, hint of sweetness and classic Mouline finish. Although a little rough to start, this smoothed out with time. I preferred the raw energy in Syrah glass, my wife preferred the more integrated smooth taste of the Burgundy glass, either way this was surprising and excellent.
This wine was a treat to try. It had quite perfumed dark fruits on the nose along with notes of earth, mineral, leather, dried herbs and black olive. It was very fresh in the mouth with good intensity. It lacked a little flesh but had good sinewy muscle and was quite direct. There was good grip to the finish and it left a savoury calling card once swallowed.
