Dark purple core with some lightening on the rim. A little smoke on the nose with cherry and plum. Blackberry, blueberry, and cherry palate. Nice structure with soft tannins and a medium, sweet finish. Well balanced. Opened up through dinner and the last glass after the meal was finished was excellent. Good complexity with secondary earth tones that added interest to the middle palate. My impression was that the wine has several years of good drinking left, but I never tasted it when young. I thought the 2004 was waning, but this 2003 was fresher. Seems like I may be opposite of the Community.
It took about a half hour to open up when decanted. The wine still had plenty of fruit left while also having a nice terrior balance to it. It had dark chocolate and blackberry notes. A very long finish. The wine is ready to drink.
Opened 3 of these last night. 2 good, 1 corked. The two that were good were certainly acceptable but if you have this wine, it's time to drink it. Not going to get any better at this point. Nice fruit with that slightly aged appeal to it and overall quite smooth and pleasant.
