Big Boreaux IX tasting at Kevin's 4/18/15) Nose: woody/earth/forest floor, etc., no green notes or funk...just exciting. The tannins are still apparent but well integrated, with nice acidity. After thirty + years the fruit is still prevalent and ripe (red fruits as strawberry, but with hints of blue fruit as well.). The palate was so rich and mouth filling; just wonderful(I was one of two "outliers" that night , that picked this as my wine of the night. Oh well, maybe that will keep the price down?
A very feminine and sensuous Mouton. My experience with this wine was the classic power in a velvet glove. After the '86, this is my next favorite Mouton. Decanted for 2.5 to 3 hrs. High toned perfume of dried cherry infused with delicate dried violets, lilacs and Asian spices. The silky textures, the high level of complexity, the harmonious balance of power and delicateness and the finely detailed palate has provided for one of the most sensuous Moutons I've ever drank.
Big Bordeaux IX (Kevin's house): Slow-O for 5 hours, decanted for 20 minutes. Drank 1 glass over about 1.5 hours. This wine took some time to calm down in the las. There was a lott of earth on the nose and palate. Spice, lead pencil, hers, dry leaves, and a soy-umami thing going on. The finish was tangy and a little tart.

(Château Mouton Rothschild) Medium dark bricked red color; appealing, mature, olive, tart currant, tobacco nose; tasty, mature but solid, tart currant, olive, mineral palate with nearly fully resolved tannins; long finish
(Chateau Mouton Rothschild) had a pleasant nose, nutty and with some sweetness, with good earth and a coppery minerality. I was really digging its nose. Dan observed 'pencil,' and it was there 100% in this great nose. The 1983 was also very tasty, with excellent balance and acidity and nice floral and gravelly flavors. Rich and long, the 1983 won the Miss Congeniality award and is a great wine to drink now. I'll take three of these over one 2000 or four over a 2005, but then again I have a drinker's mentality as opposed to a collecting one
