  • Caught at a perfect time. Terrific aroma and full body.

  • Popped and let open up for about 30 minutes. Had with my mother with a Xmas dinner of NY steak. Good dark color. No distinctive nose. No heat, completely mature. It was a bit too sweet for my tastes, reminded me of a port. My mother enjoyed it. It had a clean, medium long finish. It was nice but did not knock my socks off. The sweetness kept me from drinking much of it. Bottle is ready to drink--at its peak--drink up.

  • This was the last of three bottles that I purchased from the winery in '06. It was also the best by my memory of and juxtaposition with the two other. It revealed some Zinfandel elements with a hint of dried cherry (a slight mulled sweetness) on its perfectly constructed medium bodied frame, but the complexity of this bottle was impeccable, melding chalky stone components with aged fruit, spice, and cheese; all on a seamless, well developed palate. Smooth finish and incredibly pleasurable to drink alongside my meals over two evenings, I will sorely miss this wine. The various Zinfandel bottlings of subsequent vintage releases from this producer haven't reached the quality in this '04, seeming to take a more mainstream, heavy-handed style to appease the masses (not that you could often name Navarro's wines as such when rightly compared to their statewide peers).

  • My last (and therefore best) bottle. For whatever reason, this one was more identifiable as a zin than the others. No raisins and no noticeable heat, but lots of bright red fruit and a hint of sweetness. No signs of age. Beautiful nose and a long, almost creamy finish. Not big enough to stand up to typical zin-friendly food, but delicious on its own.

  • Poured the bottle in a med-base decanter and soon after that into the glasses. This is my idea, no my ideal, for great Zinfandel of the aged and light style. Mountain berries, a little creme, caramelized sugar, and tart red fruit all show on the pure nose and palate. The finish is strong and still actually shows a dryness that some might call white-pepper like. Nice, fruity and creamy medium-body purity in this juice, this doesn't remind me much of anything like the 25 or so Zinfandel wines I tasted at various Lodi wineries yesterday, which were most all in various degrees of showing gloppy, hot, fake, oak-chippy, and "confected" (or just out-right flawed). I'll be sad when my last bottle (just one left) is gone.
