A definite treat of a wine. I almost wish we had pulled these a bit earlier because at this point in the evening I was quite a few glasses in. And yet you can tell there's something interesting here and it's not so shy of a wine that you can't quite get to it even as it's a later bottle. It had been opened and decanted. It was lovely fruit. All fresh and bright and reminded me of a very ripe raspberry. There was balance to it. Not overly ripe and while there's an intensity here somehow it doesn't come across as overdone. I was quite impressed. This has a long life ahead of it, but definitely a really fun and interesting wine.

Finally opened a 2002 SQN More Than Just a Number Grenache - the only one I have. The cork literally disintegrated into little pieces in spite of using the aso cork puller and a very gentle handling, but unlike the only other bottle of this wine I bought, this was NOT corked!!! Thankful for my rabbitt strainer and funnel. So excited! We did a PnP on the first glass. On the nose, a melange of ripe red berries with that trademark SQN unctuous juiciness, tar, floral notes and the slightest hint of vanilla. The wine is a light red - almost like a Pinot Noir in color - with its slight amount of ruby transparency. On the palate, it was bursting with home baked raspberry tart, cranberry, ripe red cherry, a hint of dark chocolate and a long smooth cigar tobacco finish. Drink now or in the next 1-2 years if you want the fruit.

Elegant, fantastic nose of red and dark berries. Acid holding. Would recommend drinking soon. It is still enjoyable but definitely peaked or on its way down.

Definitely at the end of its drinking window. Doesn't mean that it wasn't lovely, however! Had it to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. Not a hard edge to be found, but the finish might be shortening a little.

I have had this twice from a 750. Both times I had similar feelings - this is good but nor great. And not the same 'wow' I get from most of Manfred's creations. Deep dark color, somewhat muted taste. It wants to be bigger but somewhat restrained. Have a magnum left. Hope it shines. Given the price of this wine at auctions ($1200 or more) I would be careful. Mercifully I bought mine many many years ago.
