From memory. Amazing wine from a not so amazing vintage. PNP. Cork intact. Color ruby brick. Nose all secondary mature burgundy and palate to match. Everything was seamless and delicate but finish pretty well balance between structure and secondary fruit. Was great with turkey dinner and a side of mushrooms. If you are one of the lucky few that has this still around find a fellow burgundy nut and make their day
Clear the whole way through, very light in color but not especially faded. This was gorgeous. A real surprise at how extremely good this was. Beautiful aromatics that were just a full spectrum of how developed Burgundy smells. Hard to describe other than to simply say “perfumed” which is utterly lacking in how wonderfully this wine’s aromatics lifted from the surface up to one’s nose. A pleasure to smell. This was clearly at an apex to me. The fruit is fully mature with just enough primary sweetness to keep a sense of freshness to the earthy, herbal, spicy flavors. Texture was just at the point where there is still weight but in a completely airy sort of way. The only dint against this would be the tannins have a slight drying effect on this very elegant and discreet wine however this is picking at nits in the grand scheme of things.
Burgundy Dinner (Oceanique - Evanston IL): We were going to have DRC RSV from 1972 and 1991, so thought I'd take a chance here. Light color, pale red fruit on nose and palate. Some slightly interesting spice but not at the level you'd want from RSV or DRC, more like what you'd expect from 1994. Still showing bigger tannin than I'd want to see, based on this bottle I doubt DRC 94 RSV will integrate into an exciting wine. But if I had another bottle I'd rather take the chance and see where it is in 2015+ vs opening again now.
Visit to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (Burgundy, France): Another wine of deep ruby colour. Attractive aromas - some floral overtones above the fruit and oak. Smooth texture - a bit fat in the mouth - good acidity and intense flavours. Long deep finish. Probably 6 years away.
