Annoyingly, I can't tell if this is the '93 or '92, both of which Cellar Tracker alleges are in my cellar, the date slip having been lost. (No fault of CT, Eric, my record keeping should be better.) Whichever, on opening it is thin, attenuated, short of fruit and long of acidity. And yet, and yet, after more than an hour oxygen revives a wine apparently dead, and what emerges is an elderly, dignified, reserved and reticent but quite charming citizen of Burgundy. A lesson for me to respect old Burgundy and give it time. vg

1993 Burgundy at the Ledbury (The Ledbury): Straightforward fun, hedonistic and evolved. Rustic, as someone described it, "a hippy wine"? A pleasure to drink, none the less. vg
