  • From a 750: still quite good, if a bit aged. The nose is only okay, but the mouth is good and the length is very good. Ripe white fruit.

  • Drink from 375: medium body, strong petrol on the nose but nothing at all on the palate. Very rounded wine with mainly pineapple, citrus and mineral on the palate. High acidity. Still has the potential to improve.

  • From 375
A ripe but not overripe nose, with orchard fruit, honeydew melon, florals, stone, and honey, On the palate, it's full bodied and beautifully balanced: ripe, with plenty of dry extract and density, and if its acidity and minerality were not so beautiful balanced it could seem fat. That said, this has terrific acid, fruit, and soil balance. Baroque yet deftly balanced and detailed. Grand Cru intensity and impact delivered with poise. Finishes very long with some kaffir lime and oyster shell adding to the whole. Outstanding. Drinking very well but I can't think of a reason to wait. 93

  • My last bottle from Xmas in 2018 was pretty advanced so it was with more than a little trepidation when I poured this – once I saw the color, huge relief, this was good to go. At 15 years in, this (sound bottle ) is in a really lovely spot, more soil than citrus, the acidity has neatly folded into the overall frame work of the wine creating a balanced, almost round feel. Still, a confident and sure finish still has some muscle and power, but the descriptors ‘elegant’ and ‘classy’ poppped into my brain every time I took a sip. Just lovely.

  • With dungeness crab clusters to start and baked Arctic char for the main, a simply brilliant bottle of the 2005 Weinbach Schlossberg Cuvee Ste Catherine Riesling at its apogee. Quite dry, redolent of steel, old limes, flint, oxidized honey, but still fresh. Tangy, layered, long, bone dry but with loads of richness, I’m in love.
