Trying a younger one from Domaine de la Janasse 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Tradition. Dark red color, even if its a young wine he has a nose of ripe red and black fruits, violets and pepper. Light acidity in the mouth with well integrated tanins and a little bit of licorice. The 15% alcohol is not bad at all. Its going very well now but even in a decade it will be very nice (in my opinion) ! Good to have some bottles left....
Cheers !

Excellent I've not been in the mood to take notes and contemplate. Rich with great depth and gaining length with air. Yes, more modern in style - very smooth and fruit-centered without more 'rustic' elements I find in the CdPs (and similar) that end up being my favorites. But there's no denying the enjoyability and excellence here.

Displaying delicious notes of plums, blackberries, pine-needles and herbs, this full-bodied and fruity Châteauneuf-du-Pape is both traditional and modern at the same time. The wine is in a balanced and lovely phase at the moment. The tannins have softened and integrated, so the wine is very supple and pleasant to drink now, but the fresh and rich fruit is still fully there. This may still evolve and gain some new nuances, but you certainly don't make a mistake, if you open this now.

New Year pairing. 1) Whistlepig Old World Rye Aged 12 Years (depleted the last of the bottle). 2) 2014 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse. 3) 2016 Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape. See my many previous Pegau and Saint Cosme notes. These three wines from my cellar - check the specific bottles - consistently overachieve with unmatched value, quality, depth, and enjoyment. The best QPR except for entry level Turley Zinfandels. The Grenache heavy Janasse is special, with cherry, black pepper, white pepper, high alcohol, cigar box, leather, plum, blackberry, and cedar. This is big boy and girl wine. Yet check the price; buy, buy, buy.
