  • Very pretty, well-aged Côte-Rôtie, beautifully poised and defined, both structured and finessed. Pale color. Dusky, musky red fruit, leather, and light ash on the nose, which needs some time in the glass to blossom. Fresh, channeled and focused on the palate, with age-worn red fruit, leather, old cabinet, and a long and chewy umami-bomb finish. This is an understated wine that I believe is at peak - not sure what fruit there is will outlast the structure (if you care about fruit).

  • Spectacular Cote Rotie from an interesting vintage - favors elegance, finesse, and balance over power and concentration, but this has aged incredibly well on balance alone. Very complex with a slight tang and savory edge to the red fruit, pepper, leather and meaty notes. An exceptional example from an exceptional producer and a purchased for a song vs. much more expensive "trophy" peers.

  • Gourgeous Cote Rotie - really well balanced, with several layers of complexity. Rich red fruit, leather, pepper and some barnyard funk. Long, lush, complex finish - damn near forces you to have another sip. This is drinking well beyond its actual age - very nice right now.

  • Much fresher than the last bottle. Cork was in better shape, too. This is a paradigm shifting wine for me. Flavor profile of a Cote Rotie, but with freshness and lift that you just don't see elsewhere, except for maybe Allemand. Long fruit flavors with perfect (for me) ripeness, which is to say less ripe than 80% of what's out there. Gets better and better as you work through the bottle. Oh if this could start a trend . . .

  • Started to brick a bit just at the rim. Popped two bottles and both had soft corks, which troubles me a bit and may have accounted for what seemed like a relatively mature profile. Drank this against the two inaugural Reynvaan's and it suffered a bit in comparison on the complexity side. Where this shined was on the structure and the lift. Reminds of a bit of the 2002 Allemand Cornas. This is a structural profile that I really seek out these days. Good flavor intensity but with a light texture.
