Agree with subtlet's tasting notes below. This wine was great. Mushroom, cherries, forest floor, a hint of carmel and graham cracker. Very feminine. soft tannins still present. Good acidity. Did oxidize a bit after 3-4 hours but that was not unpleasant: it was accompanied with even more funk. Excellent wine. I think this will last another 2-4 years
Popped and poured, note taken 30 minutes open. Way younger than expected. Light aromas of cherry, wood pieces, a light mushroom, and actually a bit of alcoholic heat. Very bright in the mouth, showing more of the acidic cherry and some cranberry. Very typical, but not too exciting. Just the same throughout, kind of boring. Still some tannins present, and quite fresh on the finish. By the flavors present today, I wouldn't guess this to be more than a few years old.
The nose exhibits mushroom notes with subtle cherries. I think it best compares to a cherry pie that's been cooked well with sugar on the crust. The wine starts out very light on the palate, but the cherry flavor delivers, and the mushrooms aren't too strong. Gentle tannins round out the finish. This wine is still delicate and the aged pinot characteristics are beautiful on it. I don't see it having a lot more time though, so drink up soon if you're fortunate enough to still have some of this. It would be awesome to compare this with some aged burgundies.
Marginally better than the bottle I opened a few months ago. I still didn't enjoy it a lot but it was drinkable. Those in the group that were fans of aged Burgundy liked this much, much more than I did though.
