  • Surprisingly brambly aroma - herb and tabac, red fruits. For as ripe a vintage expected riper fruits, perhaps stewed aromas.
Chewy tannin entry with lots of fruit, but an immediate bitter acid shift on the palate. The ripe fruits are there, too, but overwhelmed by acid that seems out of step. Would expect more ripe tannin from Shea as well.
Two others in party enjoyed it more; one likes big reds quite well.
Previous 2006 was much better - was not Shea, however.

  • Has gotten better with time. Probably past peak (depending on you style preference). Definitely aged but it is a nicely balanced, light and nuanced pinot. I wouldn't hold onto these too much longer. No significant decant needed.

  • Last bottle...lasted longer than anticipated. Probably past its peak but still drinks OK. Consistent with my notes on 9/16...good but not great

  • It's been a while since last having this wine. My last few experiences with Ken Wright wines have been inconsistent. Decanted for about 45 minutes, drank half over 2 hours.

Consistent with some of prior notes: "Cloudy, garnet color. Red fruits, cherry, cola and candy fruits." What was different...the wine seemed to have settled in and added more secondary characteristics. Texture was more refined than I recall last bottle. More prevalent with darker fruits, blueberry. Tannins are integrated and fine.

Drinking nicely now, much better than previous bottle. I think the decant helps, the wine has settled in a bit.

  • Best on first night as it feels like this bottle is past its peak. Fell apart on 2nd night. Dark cherry fruit with viscous mouthfeel. Tannins are completely integrated and acids lacking by 2nd day. There is some spice and carmel on the finish that got stronger on day #2. Pleasant day #1 and not so drinkable on 2nd day.

(Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard) Bright, slightly cloudy, raspberry red color; focused ripe cherry nose with spice and sweet caramel; tasty, plush but sprightly ripe cherry and red fruit palate with good acidity and structure; medium-plus finish 93+ pts.
