Drank from Methuselah, initially harsh and took 7 hrs to open up, very deep floral nose with tar, charcoal, mushrooms, still dark red in color with very slight bricking on the rim, very fresh, medium plus body and medium finish. Will this transcend the whole burgundy experience? Perhaps not but a much appreciated experience. It smells a bit better than it tastes...
This was probably the worst moment in my wine drinking experience...The incredible anticipation to opening and drinking this legend, only to find yourself with a tannic, acidic third class burgundy with no depth or body....At least the 1999 DRC Montrachet which we drank beforehand was sublime.

(DRC Romanee Conti) which was much shier than the '85 but still extraordinary. It was sandy yet still meaty, soy saucy in an oozing way. Oily and nutty, it was rich and spiny, not like the '85 but still a killer in its own right. It had both a rustic power like many '88s, but also an elegance most 88's lack. That elegance caused the '88 to take some abuse after the 1985, but make no mistake about it, this was an outstanding wine
