I picked up a couple of these on close out for $24 about 6 years ago. First bottle a few months ago was just ok. Popped and poured at a BYO and it was really singing. Got even better after 45 minutes opened. Certainly not my favorite vintage, but this was worth more than I paid...
Aranciato marroncino... da barbaresco old style & vintage.
I'm not generally a fan of this vintage in Europe but this wine managed to avoid the heat excess and is drinking beautifully now. There is lovely fresh violet and black cherry fruit that gives way to a wonderful complexity on the finish with notes of tobacco and spices. Yes, the grippy tannins are a bit roasted but in a good way that adds to the deliciousness of the wine. Ready to go and perfect with the white lasagna/white truffle dish at Craft, NYC.
