1st of 6 (and 2 magnums left), decanted an hour, perfect level, cork quarter stained, flavours as described in note on magnum in 11/18, just a bit more dilute, ie without classic Hermitage scale and mid palate punch, particularly given the quality of the vintage, quite silky, some class and a nice drink, plateau, 10+ years. At least F (17.5) but no fireworks!

Nose: plum, prune, leather, black fruits, violet, tar, black pepper Notes: 13.5% ABV. I can't say I was impressed by this wine as it is still quite alcoholic and fails to open up even after some decanting. Good chance that this is not quite ready yet, nevertheless I failed to see much substance in this wine and I doubt this will improve significantly with time. Perhaps a bit more time could help - maybe another 5 years of cellaring? Drink: 2029+ Rating: 87

Medium dark garnet red with orange rim. Classic mature Hermitage notes. Blackcurrant, prune, leather, tobacco, spices, dried herbs and cedar. Medium-full bodied, medium-high acidity, medium tannin, medium-high structure, medium alcohol and medium finish. Complex, layered, and silky. Lots of sediments.
It seemed to be a little cooler/leaner than other vintages. Wine was at peak, and should drink well over the next few years. I recommend to let it breathe for at least 2 hours.

Holding up well - soft but fruit and tannin still good and balanced and plenty of length. Probably best to drink up.
