Well....for a 28 year old chardonnay, this was amazing. Nose was either toasty warm vanilla or skunk. Once you decided it was skunk, you just had to get past it. The palate was an addicting beautiful warm honey, baked pear, and apple cider concoction. Awesome.

With K at home at dinner (pasta del sol). Deep golden yellow color. Rich, viscous. Great appearance! Nose shows coconut, cream, sweet oak. Austere. On the palate, lemony, creamy, juicy fruit. Lavishly oaked, but not overbearing--in fact, nicely integrated. Seems to be drinking better now than a short tine ago, when it seemed oaky and austere. 5-10-16-7: 88/100.

With K at home at dinner. Nice strong color. Clear and brilliant. Nose is rather nice, rich and buttery. Unfortunately, it's nasty, thin and acidic in the mouth, with only a hint of the butter in the nose. Quite a disappointment, given both the wine's reputation and how nice it was earlier in its life. 5-10-5-3: 73/100.

At home at dinner with Cynthia and Steve and Katie and Laird. Deep straw color. Rich, deep nose. Excellent. Complex, rich, multi-layered on the palate. Wow! hasn't lost a thing. 5-12-17-8: 92/100.

With K at home at dinner (teriyaki halibut). Deep straw color. The bouquet is just a knockout. Can be smelled well before the first sniff. Big, bold complex butterscotch fruit and citrus with well-integrated oak. As good if not better on the palate. This wine is bold and brassy with nothing held back. Luscious, with all of the above well in evidence. It all works because the acid holds everything in perfect balance. What a wine! The finish just won't quit! 5-13-18-9: 95/100.
