  • The menthol hit certainly cleared my sinuses followed by a pleasing whack of leather. The fruit definition was poor, but it did reveal tar, spice and tannins. Although it took some time to open out, the saving grace was the development of a little black chocolate and richness on the finish, improving with each mouthful. Nonetheless, this was without structure or elegance, and as on the two or three previous occasions I have sampled this cuvée, I remain unconvinced. CHP 86pts

  • Last of this great wine. I waited to long to enjoy this wine. It's not good with food, so enjoy it on its own. The intense fruit is gone. Its very reductive and port like at this point. Reminds me of the great Napa cabs from the 70s. It's interesting, but not mind blowing.

    Color. Brick red.

Nose. Kirsch, tawny fruit, cinnamon, sandalwood, charred meats.

Palate. Cherries, plum skins, dried fruits, mild tannins.

Decanted 30mins alongside a 1998 Mouton. Blind taste for the boys to decide which they prefer.

The intensity of the colour is still maintained, vibrant for a 23 yr old wine. The nose still has hints of berries and fruity. This translated to a pinch of sweetness in the mouth. Overall typical of the big fruit Aussie wines but has mellowed to to a level that is more balanced and less over powering than in its youth leading to a medium bodied finish.

Last bottle but maintained so much better than the previous bottle I had in 2019.

Definitely past it’s peak, not as plumb and bold as I remember the 707s to be but still enjoyable...

  • deep colour and complex leathery nose. I didnt decant and thought it was shot when I first tasted but it came good and got better for an hour before dying. Stewed fruit, prunes, leather and blackcurrant.
    Yum!
Thought I had left this one too long before opening but caught it just in time
