20 Mature Magnums (mostly Bdx, w/ Unico, Vogue Musigny, Marthas): From magnum. Two 1948s side-by-side. Not the best vintage and both wines showed quite similar characteristics: not overly rich and ripe fruit, far too much acidity dominating the picture and missing definition. Still, you could drink both wines. The Mouton (91pts) edged out the Haut Brion, which had a slight cork taint.
TN: Some wet cardboard or more likely slight TCA notes. If we would have had more time, we would have found it out. Underneath, there was a cool, fresh, dark-fruited wine with some malty notes, melted tannins, a too dominating acidity and hence a mediocre balance only.

Richter Raritäten Vol.VII (Magnums only) (Farnsburg): Clear dark red, brighter and less dark than usual for old Haut Brions. Grilled beef, smoked bacon, cedar, dried plums. Long, muscular with a good acidity.

Lots of dried leaves, cigar box and dusty tobacco nuances. Very old and musky on the nose. Surprisingly the palate still has more life! Some racy cherries and even strawberries but awkwardly tart. Probably a taste of history.

Magnum Rarities Tasting in Zurich (Zunfthaus zur Waag, Zurich): From Magnum: Corked unfortunately and hard to qualify anything. The palate appeared still nicely fruity and fresh with good tension. A pristine bottle might be quite a banger.

Annual Richter All-Magnum Extravaganza: Was decent to drink, but I suspect it was slightly corked
