The Thirteenth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, Ontario, Canada): Really prominent nose...a touch of sulphur initially but it blew off quite quickly. Pretty aromas of spice, lemon custard, mineral and white flowers. Palate is lush (definitely a riper year) but there is medium+ acid that balances this nicely. Flavours of nutmeg, clove, lemon, lime, ripe apple, acacia flowers and just the faintest whiff of oxidation that adds complexity. Finish is long and layered. Pretty. Almost 94
This one started off a little bit awkward and disjointed for me but ultimately found its place. Whereas the 96 Genevriere we had alongside it had that racy tension this felt a little bigger. A good wine but may need more time to find its personality.
Burg Dinner with Friends (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Completely different than the last time I tried this wine less than a year ago, and I'm fairly certain both were from the same source. Last time it came across as tight and too young. Now it was more "age appropriate" for a 1999, perhaps slightly more advanced than I'd expect with as much earth and mushroom as fruit. Clearly ripe apple with a nice nutty complement and sweet spice all the way through.
