  • A moment of reflection with this wine of almost half a century. First bottle from a four bottle lot. Pristine bottle, level base of neck. Cork extracted without much difficulty. Not decanted, enjoyed over 90 minutes. Mature but lively appearance; beautifully aromatic, mature Pomerol nose, crushed red berries, touch of earth, hint of truffle, warmth from the wood, pure and transparent, lovely depth, layered and complex, develops a floral fragrance, perfectly classical without any volatility; the palate is elegant and harmonious, silky-sweet, with perfectly integrated acidity and just the right level of tannic grip; complete finish, very good resonance and length. A perfect bottle, in great shape, delicate but not fragile, beautifully expressive of its exalted terroir.

  • Pomerol Dinner to mark the publication of Neal's book (The Square, London): Mellow, coffee scented, quite rich. Very smooth through the attack. Depth and complexity here. Complete and satisfying. ****1/2

  • Very bright red color which you would never have guessed a 71. Lively, high-toned, floral nose that reminded me of the Petrus 71 tasted a few weeks ago. Classic mature right bank and fully in the secondary but just lacking that bit of depth and length to be great. While it actually opened up (in the bottle) after 15-30mins of air I would drink these rather than risk the fruit fading. On hind sight this bottle could have been decanted (in a narrow container preferably) to get rid of sediment.

  • Fragrant nose and - surprisingly - vibrant nose with a longer than expected finish given age. Lacks a little muscle and wonder what it would have been like a few years ago. Nonetheless, an excellent, mature bordeaux with all the elements you'd expect of one. Drank straight from bottle, but could use 30 minutes of decanting (small decanter). No noticeable fading even 1 hour after pour. A pleasure to drink.

  • Powerful bordeaux. Nice nose and great texture. Impressive for 35 years old. Not exactly youthful, but not fading either. Strong showing.
